~ Mural ~

On of the most beautiful Abbys in Tuscany is Monte Oliveto Maggiore . . . The monestary on the mountain.
It was begun on this site in the 1300's.
The most amazing murals are in the rectangular Chiostro Grande. This portico is decorated with a fresco cycle by Luca Signorelli that depicts the life of Saint Benedict. Singnorelli began work but the cycle was finished in 1508 by the famous Italian artist Sodoma.
This is one panel of almost 40 ~ a beautiful mural. It depictsthe Benedictine monks building the Monestary on top of the mountain.
Along with a few of Sodoma's favorite pets.
Leave your comment and a link ~ we'll stop by for a visit.
Happy Hunting y'all~

  15. That is one of my favourite murals in Italy - especially after the long, contemplative trek through the cypress to get to the monastery.

I decided to go more modern with my mural shot this week.
